Siguió a su ex por sobras… y descubrió al hijo que le ocultaron

tan seria que hizo reír a los dos adultos al mismo tiempo.

Luego pidió un deseo y no quiso decirlo.

Más tarde, cuando ya estaba dormido en el sofá abrazado a su dinosaurio de peluche, Nayeli y Héctor quedaron en silencio mirando al niño.

—¿Qué pidió? —preguntó Héctor en voz baja.

Nayeli sonrió apenas.

—Probablemente algo que no se compra.

Él la miró.

—Menos mal —respondió.

Porque al final eso era lo que más dolía de toda la historia: no que un hombre rico hubiera descubierto la pobreza de la mujer que amó, sino que necesitara verlo comer sobras junto a un hijo enfermo para entender que hay ruinas que el dinero no causa, pero sí ayuda a esconder.

Y quizá esa era la pregunta que se quedaba flotando incluso después del alivio: qué duele más, si el daño que hace un extraño o el que comete la gente que asegura protegerte.

Porque Nayeli sobrevivió al hambre, a la humillación y a la enfermedad de su hijo.

Lo más difícil no fue eso.

Lo más difícil fue aprender que el amor no siempre pierde por falta de dinero, sino por culpa de quienes creen que con suficiente poder pueden decidir qué vidas merecen existir.
